FAQ





Once I arrive at a Florida Travelers trip how do I know I am with the right group ?
Our Florida Travelers tour directors will be dressed in a  camel- color shirt and
camel-colored pants or skirt, will be wearing a name badge, and will be holding a check-in
clip board awaiting to hand you a name badge to begin the journey with others.

Who are the other members that have joined?
People just like you who have a desire to learn, discover history, attractions, food,
art and culture  in Florida.

What are the benefits of joining FL Travelers?
Traveling, learning, discovering Florida as a group.  The camaraderie of a group and making friends.  Having some laughs and fun along the way.  

Is Florida Travelers a travel agency or travel agent?
No.  Just people who want to travel as a group.

Is there a Florida Travelers Bus?
No, not yet!


How do I get to the trips?
Driving your car would be the easiest way to get to a trip.

What about carpooling with others?
If you know the person as a friend for awhile, please feel free to car pool with others.
Fl Travelers does not screen or run background checks on its members we assume all members are honest and upright citizens and the information on the membership form is
accurate and true.  We do not encourage you to get into others cars of people you do not
know for any great deal of time.  

What about meeting members outside of the trips?
We always recommend meeting at a public place such as a restaurant where others
are around.  If at anytime someone makes you feel uncomfortable, get up and leave and tell others about the situation.

Do you just travel in Florida?
Most of the trips will be in Florida until we start our States and Country Series.


Are there alligators in Florida?
Yes, it can be every body of water and alligators are dangerous. Do not feed or pet alligators.

What about the Florida wildlife?
Florida has  wildlife and a variety of wildlife from fire-ants, snakes, raccoons, armadilios, coyotees, hawks, bald eagles, bobcats, bats, burrowing owls, pelicans, great blue herons, ospreys, lizards, variety of spiders,  bears, racoons, gopher torotise, fire ants,
pythons, jelly fish, barracuda, marlin, panthers and the list goes on.... 
Wildlife in Florida is capable of causing You Harm.  Some have venom while others have
big teeth and strong jaws.  Most wildlife just want to be left alone, but if they feel
threaten or scared they may attack.  Please do not approach, or befriend, or feed 
Florida wildlife.


What are Love Bugs ?
Love Bug season is May (Spring) and September  (Fall) and last 3 - 5 weeks.
 Love bugs don't: sting, bite, eat trash, buzz, click or hum.   
Love Bug bodies are extremely acidic and will "pit" the finish of your car, if allowed to stay on.
Most Florida car washes are well-equipped to deal with love bugs and most stores carry bug remover.  Love Bugs can clog your car radiator causing to overheat.
Love bugs are a small black fly with a read thorax and by no reason to cancel or change 
vacation plans.  Love bugs are just annoying and one will rarely see a lone love bug.

 
What should I wear?
We recommend comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes on trips but it is Florida and people love their flip flops.  If you must wear a sandal, "golfer-type" sandals are constructed sturdy and well-made than flip flops.  It is Florida and We will be walking on uneven pavement and trails and at times the roads will have water and mist
on them.


What about hurricanes?
Hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th.  The most active time could start
in September.

And the Rain?
During hurricane season, rain comes almost every day like clockwork and experience at least one torrential downpour.  This does cool off the day, but no fun if you have a day planned with Florida Travelers.  A plastic poncho is always a good idea to bring during this season.

Should I Wear Sunscreen?
Yes. Florida  is called the Sunshine State and has a very harsh sun.  The sun is intense so if you dont want to have a sunburn or blisters wear  SPF of at least 15 or higher should be worn when on outside activities.  Bugs in Florida should be the state bird. There are lots of bugs so bug spray is recommended.

And the bugs?  Wear bug spray.

What is Red Tide?
Red tide means there is a lot of algae in the Gulf of Mexico water and can cause skin
irritation, burning, and possibility of other respiratory problems.

What are Rip Tides/Currents in Florida?
When wind and waves push water toward the shore, the water is often forced sideways
by the oncoming waves.  This water streams along the shoreline until it find s an exit
back to the open water.  Rip Tides/Currents are extremely dangerous.  Do not go in the
water when signs are posted or the lifeguard has notified beachgoers.

What time zone is Florida Travelers on?
Eastern

What should I bring?
Water, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, poncho or small umbrella, bug spray.

What about Florida humidity?
Yes, you will feel sticky feeling on the skin and fizzy hair since there is constant moisture in the air mix with warmth during hurricane season. 

Are there wildfires in Florida?
Florida battles drought conditions its something about the sun absorbing the moisture before anything has  a chance to get wet.


Should I consult my doctor before a trip?
Yes.  Some of the trips will be pretty lively and active.
Your health is of most importance, please consult your doctor for advice.

Are all the vendors the same?
Every venue we visit has their own set of guidelines and rules.
Some vendors do not accept additional discounts, coupons.  Some venue operators may accept your membership card, but they will want you to also pay the admission due to special natures of the guided or special tour.  This is the vendor's rules not
 Florida Travelers.


How Much Does it Cost?
Membership is $35.00 every year and each event has its own price.  Events range from
free to $100+ 

For Example: Even though a trip states a price such as:  $30.95 this may be the total price or your bill may be slightly higher due to the price on the Florida Travelers website due to tour operator charging a new year price, sales, taxes, service, operating fees.   Sometimes vendors prices are subject to change without notice. Florida Travelers has no control over how much the vendor charges for the admission to their venue.

What if I paid for a trip, but cannot make it due to illness, etc. Will I receive a refund?
Due to we have made arrangements in advance with tour operators or hosts for particular
trips, we cannot give refunds.  Majority of vendors do not refund.
Membership fees are also non-refundable.  Please triple check your calendar to make sure you 
can make the date before signing up for any and all trips.

Reserving a Trip?
 Please let us know at least  2- 3 weeks
before the trip that you will be attending.  Some trips have advanced notices of more than 3
weeks.  Please check that individual trip for details.

Do I pay Florida Travelers or the vendors for the event trips?
Florida Travelers 

Parking?
In addition to the event fees the vendors may charge for parking space.

How do I cancel the membership?
Just let us know.
